❄ What makes Melon special: his cute, asymmetrical face markings

Melon came into our care in the Autumn of 2024.
 

We think Melon had a home before, but was abandoned on the streets when he was no longer wanted. Not used to life as a stray, Melon had no idea how to survive by himself.

Poor Melon was hit by a car and his back legs were broken in multiple places. Thankfully, an animal lover was driving past and saw the accident happen. Melon was hit by a car at high speed with such force that he was dragged along the tarmac and then flung across the road. The car that hit him kept on driving, and Melon was left in the middle of the road in a state of complete shock, unable to move due to the pain, silently and desperately looking around him for help whilst other cars sped by.

Thankfully , the animal lover acted quickly and saved Melon and brought him straight to a local vet, where he underwent surgery for his injuries. The animal lover paid for his treatment costs and named him Melon, but after his operation Melon had nowhere to go. Desperate to find somewhere safe for him, they asked us for help. Melon moved into the Melez enclosure and made a full recovery.

Melon is a soft-natured little boy with a sweet, gentle character.

After all he has been through, Melon is a little shy and insecure, but he is a sweet boy who really wants to trust and be confident. He would love to be able to be a happy, carefree dog!

Melon loves people and is eager to get attention, but he can be shy and sometimes needs a bit of encouragement. When meeting new people, if they approach him directly, he will get scared and lie flat on the floor. If they keep their distance and gently call him over, he will happily come to say hi. Once he gets to know you he is very affectionate. When meeting children, he is a little uncertain of how to act, but he lets them pet him without creating a fuss.

Melon gets along really well with the other dogs in his kennel and loves playing with them. His best friend is Huxley, who is a lot bigger than him, but Melon loves playing with him! Melon is friendly when meeting new dogs, but can feel intimidated when meeting some other males.

Melon has a cheerful personality. He is very playful and he loves going out for walks. He is a bit anxious around traffic, but recovers quickly and he isn't easily startled by other loud noises.

​

With patient, loving guidance from his adopters, we know Melon can build up lots of self-confidence and become the carefree dog he deserves to be!

Melon is currently in Turkey and is ready to travel to the UK or the EU.

Our dogs arrive in their homes microchipped, up to date on their Rabies and Mixed vaccinations, spayed/neutered, dewormed and deflead and tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Leishmania and Anaplasma. The dogs visit the vets for a final health check before they travel. If needed, their teeth are cleaned and X-Rays are taken of any potential areas of concern. Any concerns or potential health issues we are aware of will be communicated with you beforehand.
